Had to cut down a Black Walnut tree that we lost to last summer's drought and saw this bunch of lichens and fungii growing on the bark, crazy how much stuff can live in such a tiny space! And then I saw the flowers blooming and of course had to get my 1DsMkII and trusty 100 Macro L. Don't ya just love spring? :)

I would like to ask a question of the 1DsII fans here. Do I understand correctly, the 1DsII does not have a self-cleaning sensor? I am a prime lens fan and consequently change lenses a lot. My 5Dclassic earns it's nick-name of "dust magnet". I"m wondering if I will have the same problem of constantly cleaning the sensor on a 1DsII?

^ As with all bodies prior to the "self cleaning" feature, you will be subjected to possible increased sensor dust/dirt when changing lenses... Of course it will also depend on the situation that you're in; i.e. beach environment versus inside a church... Just be mindful of the lens swap and you'll be good to go...

:D

Well if you're a fan of also using those primes wide open, then it's not really much of an issue. I'll go months without cleaning the sensor, then I'll go and shoot something different that requires me to stop down the aperture... When I review the shots, I quickly realise I need to get the swabs and eclipse fluid out! Cleaning the sensor is pretty easy though to be honest.

Very nice one of Jennie, JJ.
And what a nice shot from boredom, Fuzz! Sometimes pays to be restless I guess, at least when you put it to good work.

Yeah JJ, the sensor is fairly easy to clean, something like mucking out the bottom of a well! It's Waaaay back in there, isn't it? lol And is that Eclipse, or Eclipse II? I have both, use the Eclipse II on my 5D MkII, but if I'm not mistaken the people that make the Eclipse recommended that I use the original on the older sensor like the 5D as it's made for the particular coatings on the AA glass, whereas the Eclipse II is for the newer coatings and might streak on the older AA glass.

I don't know the history, but there is only one version of Eclipse sold today, and Photosol claims it is intended for "all digital sensors and critical optics". According to the MSDS on the manufacturer's web site, it is 100 per cent methyl alcohol (methanol).

Apparently, "e2" had some isopropyl and ethyl alcohol in it as well as methanol, but they don't seem to sell that mixture any more.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention Al. Wonder what I'm to do with the E2 variant? They don't recommend cleaning lenses or filters with it, as it was designed for the tin oxide coated sensors (which apparently was a passing fad)

Gosh, have I been at this THAT long? lol

When they sold it, the manufacturer called e2 safe for all sensors, including the tin oxide ones. E2 is supposedly the milder one of the two formulations. But, apparently there was an issue with e2 (and with other cleaners) on some early 5D sensors. It seems that there was a problem with the coatings used on a few 5D sensors.

I never heard or read about any other Canon model being affected. Here's an old link I found that talks about the 5D problem:

I'm having a bit of trouble getting this piece to connect to my computer. I figured i'd post this in here since you all love the 1dsmii. I recently picked up a pretty nice one I downloaded the driver from canon's website in hopes to add my name and change the personal function so I can bracket more than 3shots(canon needs to stop being lame and change that on their other cameras) but the camera won't connect to the computer or i should say that utility and utility viewer act as if my camera isn't even connected. It's actually getting quite annoying if i must say. The computer I'm trying to connect it to is has windows xp. My 5d that i had connected no problems at all but for some reason my 1dsmii doesn't even get recognized by utility. any suggestions??
