Works for me HERE (external link)

And the very top review mentions the black dot issue.

Strange. Your direct link works fine. However, when I go back to the home page and go thru the menus (support / consumer / camera type and model, etc. and get to the page then click on the review link, I get the restricted url popup.

It does display the page, but the reviews are not listed at the bottom.

Peoples expectations of stuff working 100% perfect out of the box, are WAY overblown. Sometimes things don't work, so they need to be fixed. No problem, but they automatically think it's the end of the world, because the hype, and expectation of the "perfect thing" leads to anti-climax. It only effects a small percentage of the shots, but people automatically assume it's a major flaw. Society runs on immediate gratification and if that cannot be achieved they feel they are being cheated out of something. Fear mongering. It's the new rage.

Yes of course, how stupid are people expecting a brand new camera to work properly. My new ford focus only came with 3 wheels, just teething troubles!, it still goes around left hand corners ok, I'm sure they'll fix it with a recall.
Get a grip, this is something that should have been spotted before release, it seems it was spotted quck enough after release anyway. It may be a small problem but it shouldn't have happened in the first place, Canon need to get their act together. wanting a £2k bit of kit to work properly isn't fear mongering. Yes people do have higher expectations these day, it comes with price! Wayne

Yea, I saw that but decided to leave it alone. Kinda' like kicking a dead dog, you know.

Sean, when you get that nice, new 50" flatpanel HDTV for Christmas, and when you take it out of the box, set it up and find out it doesn't power on, be sure to let us know how much you enjoyed boxing it back up and shipping it back- and how much you expected that to happen.

If I purchase a 99 cent potato peeler at the dollar store and it don't work, I expect that. But when I pay thousands of dollars for a camera, you can be darn well sure I expect it to work "...perfect out of the box."

Elitist! :p

Na! I'm just joking with you. ;)

I guess I am forced to change my opinion and apologize if I offended anybody. Sure! You buy something new and expensive and expect it to work 100% as advertised. I get it. Best of luck getting Canon to fix the issue.

Cheers! :)

Actually I expect every product to work as advertised, regardless of price. Price is irrelevant.

As I did with my first 50D the day after it failed. Waited 4 weeks until trying another one, which has been alright so far.

I guess "disaster" is a bit too strong but I think "inconvenience" is too weak!

This is a camera I have been waiting for, as I said, over 1 1/2 years so to say "inconvenience" at least for me would be a gross understatement! Personally, I don't want a camera with any known problems before the public gets their hands on it or soon after. This problem seems to affect many, if not all, the new cameras.

I will probably wait until a fix is issued. I hate to see what this will do to Canon's reputation. I hope it doesn't hurt them greatly as some have said. An admission of a problem and a quick fix will mitigate that concern greatly.

For now, I'll call it a bug and not a big one!;) I had hoped to join the 5D club this Christmas!

Lets hope there was a lesson learned from the MkIII fiasco--the last thing Canon needs is a list of possibly affected serial numbers--attempted and botched repairs--and a color code to sort the good from the questionable.

There are still MKIII owners not getting satisfactory service or repair results after more than a year--so those that feel the need to wait and see may be making a wise choice--IMHO.

If I was in the market for one I'd still buy it. I'd just keep my eye out for the updated firmware.

Wow, you are a nicely trained consumer. You are right, we should bow down to your corporate gods and don't question authority. I mean the defects are acceptable and it's our fault for buying the product in the first place. How dare we expect to be gratified by our $2,700 purchase.

With the MK3 AF being more of a "physical" issue with moving parts and this (very likely) being a software/firmware issue, hopefully it can be resolved much more easily.

I did the "christmas tree" and other tests and could not reproduce it..... maybe not all cameras are affected.

Wow, I just blasted through this thread. It would seem some folks have WAY too much time on their hands, and need to fill it with things to gripe about.

I have a 5D MkII on pre-order, and I have seen nothing here that will dissuade me from getting it. Yes, I wish Canon had of caught this ahead of time and fixed it then, but I am confident they will remedy it, whether it be firmware or hardware related.

As mentioned many times by others here, this issue would affect way less than 0.5% of my shots.

Those who look for perfection in everything are really disillusioned. like Canon, I too have made blunders, and only hope I will be given the chance to remedy them myself, without getting based about for them.

Ever heard of a $50k vehicle having problems and needing recalls, it happens all the time. The key thing, and I sure hope Canon does this, is that they usually take care of whatever the issue is, then we all move on.

Besides, IT IS JUST A CAMERA, nothing life threatening.

I swore I'd stay outta these equipment threads because of all the bashing in here, but my excitement (which I still feel) for the new camera I will be getting drew me here to see pictures and such. I will back out slowly and go away now. :p
