So the holidays are coming up and lets assume Santa is giving me a generous $1000 budget to spend. What do I shoot? Well I'm mostly sports / fashion photographer. I work for my school paper so I shoot events every once in a while.

So I'm debating between

Choice 1
24-70L
CPL

Choice 2

Cybersyncs + 2 flashes
85mm f/1.8

Now I have a question about the flashes, do you think I should just pick up two sunpak 383 / vivitar 285 hv or get a 430ex/580ex. I mean if I want to pick up cybersyncs do I really need the ETTL? Are there other flashes you recommend?

Other items
135L - I would use this for indoor sports
lensbaby composer - For fun
sigma 30mm f/1.4 - For fun

I think there were more items I was thinking of purchasing, but what do you think I should get?

You can use the 30 F/1.4 for more than just fun. It can be great for indoor shooting of events. Combine it with the 85 F/1.8 and you can cover a lot of indoor activities and and pick up a Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 or the Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 which are both great lenses.

Canon5DIII + Some L + Some non L + Some Sigma + Some Tamron + other stuff....
Patiently awaiting a winning Lottery Ticket to afford all the toys I would really like :-P

choice 1 is always good .. as long as you get a good copy of the 24-70 .. its mostly on my camera

choice 2 .. if you are going off camera .. there's no need to spend 200 or more on a flash if you tend to use remote triggers .. so i would say get the vivitars or sunpaks

choice 3 .. 135L .. on your 40D .. it would amount to 216, that can give you some reach if you need it .. but you already have the 70-200L, but the prime of 135 is awesomely nice thou ...

but i would go with option 2 .. there's so much more you can play with off camera lighting ... and plus you do fashion shows and im pretty sure that it can come in very handy
