Hi guys,

Not sure if I am missing something, had a look around the canon support site and can't for the life of me figure out how to get canon to look at my camera (won't turn on anymore).

Do I need to request an RMA number? Or can I just turn up at a canon service centre?

Many thanks in advice

I use my local photo shop. Canon obviously give them a piece of the action, but its a whole lot easier.

Chris,

I know, it says Surrey under Location, bit of a giveaway, that! Forgive him, he's from across the Atlantic.

Michael, I'm joking, forgive me?

We have a Surrey in Canada too. Give us Canadians some credit, eh? ;)

Anyway Chris, this link should have everything you need.

Thanks for the link (and sorry for the confusion!)

I found the nearest service centre to me:

Unit 130 Centennial Park, Centennial Avenue, Elstree Hill South, Borehamwood, Elstree
Wd6 3Se
Hertfordshire
United Kingdom
Telephone: 0844 369 0100

Tried phoning but just ended up getting redirected around canon's phone system. Asked a canon rep if this place is an actual canon store or place that deals with customers face to face and he couldn't tell me.

If I just turn up there (obviously with the correct documentation) will they accept my camera?

Is this a warranty repair?
If so I'm certain you have to go through Canon, get an incident number and then send it either to them or to an authorised repairer (they'll email you a list). I must admit I had no real problem when I needed a repair under warranty for a 1D mark IIN.

I ended up sending it in to Fixation in London who did a superb job. I've just checked the phone number you quote and it seems ok, personally I'd try them again tomorrow, you may get a bit more sense out of someone else.

Chris

The Elstree centre is the main offices and service centre. I cannot find the number yet but when I wanted to take 70-300 IS lens in I got a "number" and told them I wished to drop it off there as well as get my 40D sensor cleaned (first clean under warranty).

All was hunky dorey - called the young lady at reception had the notes but I had to fill in a form detailing what was needed etc. Cleaning was done over lunch approx 2.5 hours

So yes you will need a logged in number AFAIK and they will let you visit to drop & collect if required.

HTH :)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Chris, here a link to the Canon UK website which shows the phone number to ring.

http://www.canon.co.uk …rs/telephone_numbers.aspx (external link)

Give them a ring and they will give you a Canon Ref No. required before you send your camera for repair.
