I bought 2 Samsung 953bw 19in monitors from someone and they are both the same with everything but one small detail. One says energy saving on it, so no matter what I do I can not make them look the same and that defeats the whole purpose of me buying 2. Is there anyway at all to correct this?

Thank you.

Ibcyalater,

Presumably you have set the gamma and luminence on both to the same settings and run them through a calibration?

I use settings of gamma: 2.2 with a luminence: 110 CD/M2. 120 CD/M2 is considered the "recommended luminence".

With correct calibration, it should in theory be possible to get two totally different montors looking alike.

My Samsung 910n has MagicTune and MagicBright stickers on it. I have no idea what they mean.

honestly I am a little lost when it comes to calibrating, but I figure if i have them both on the same settings they should be the same. lol guess thats not true. now i suppose calibration software is exspensive right? or is it hardware?

Ibcyalater,

They are both hardware and software. The hardware consists of a mouse like object that sits on the monitor screen and the software uses it to measure a raft of different parameters. An ICC profile is automatically created to correct any errors found. It needs redoing about once a month as monitors suffer from something called "drift"!

The cheapest option is probably the Huey Pantone. Its for sale here in the UK from prices ranging from £49 to £99.

I use an Eye1 Display2, which is very well reviewed and is very popular. It is on sale here in the UK for around £125 plus VAT (£143.75).

There are loads of different calibration devices on the market, all at different prices and offering slightly different options. "You pays your money and you takes your pick". One interesting new concept is the ColorMunki, it not only calibrates the monitor, but the printer as well. It does have shortcomings however, whether these are important to you, only you can decide.
