Camcorder batteries are running about $100, but there are after-market batteries for about $20.

1 - Are these "after-market" batteries just as good?
2 - Is there a reputable place that is selling Canon HV30 batteries for $20 or so?

This is my place of choice for aftermarket batteries. I don't know if they have them for the HV30, but you can take a look.

If you look around on the forum, they are the recommended place for aftermarket BP-511 batteries in a lot of the Canon DSLRs.

I get all my batteries for my DSLRs & Camcorders at Diamondback Batteries. Great prices, service, fast shipping and quality products. I've never had a problem.
