It might work with your 75-300 in manual focus mode. It would not work with the 18-55 or the 500. The 75-300mm lens would become a 119-510mm f/6.7-9.5 manual focus lens of very low quality. So there is no point to use the extender. Just use your 500mm lens instead.

Then definately try it out before buying it to see of you like it or if it works at all.

EOS camera bodies usually give an error when using a manual lens on an electronic teleconverter due to a switch in the mount that shows the presence of an electronic lens. The only pictures of a Cozon 1.7x extender that I have seen have the electronic contacts.

What kind of 500mm lens do you have? Remember that a teleconverter isn't magic. It increases the exit angle of the light from the lens. This spreads the image over a larger area and therefore magnifies the faults of your lens.

Make sure you try it before buying it. If it works at all, you still might not like the results.

A 500mm is not a handholdable thing. At least not if you want sharp images. At that focal length the slightest amount of vibration makes focusing difficult to say the least because the image in the viewfinder is jumping around like crazy. Adding a TC to that will simply aggrevate the problem.

Also, bare in mind that the TC will cost you 1.5 to 2 (to sometimes 3) f-stops of light. So, depending on what your maximum aperature of your 500mm lens, add at least 1.5 f-stops to that speed. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that your 500mm Manual Mode lens is a f/8 Mirror lens. f/8 + 2-stops = f/16. At f/16 you need A LOT of light, plus in order to shoot a fast enough shutter speed to get a steady shot on a 500mm you need at least 1/500 or faster. 1/500 @ f/16 will only be possible in VERY bright sunlight.

Sorry, but your best bet is to not bother with the teleconverter for this lens.

What will you be shooting with this focal length?

another thing to remember, your Rebel XS (1000D) is a 1.6x crop camera. So, your 500mm lens is the equivalent of 800mm on film. You aren't gonna need more than that in any case. Also, if I'm right about your 500mm being a f/8 Mirror lens. They aren't that good to start with.

They are cheap old-tech lenses (made currently, yes), but they aren't very good. They never have been.

It would appear that Rokinon has sold several 500mm lenses.

A 500mm f/8 catadioptric (mirror),
a 500mm f/6.3 catadioptric,
a 500mm f/8 refractor telescope often used as a camera lens.

In any of those cases, a teleconverter isn't going to get you any more reach than cropping. Your camera already out-resolves the lens by a lot. Little is gained by magnifying the blur further.

If your pictures don't appear sharp and detailed, the problem is probably with camera shake, poor lighting, or poor post processing.

Hi thanks,
my lense is not a mirror lense and yes the ap is f/8..the problem is,i use a sturdy tripod with my 500mm and also my 75-300mm but no matter what,i can't get that sharp fine detail,so a guy i know in sweden made a offer to sell me his and i have seen some of his photos and they are fantastic,so if i'm using the same equiptment, why are mine not that good??my 500mm lense is much longer than the picture above though..do you think it is a setting messed up in my camera itself?

its not the camera, its the lens. These lenses are of very low quality hence they are as cheap as they are. They can't deliver super sharp results no matter what setting you use. The limitation is the lens.

for your best shot at sharpness you need to shoot even with it tripod-mounted at shutter speeds faster than 1/500, I'd even suggest faster than 1/1000.

Unless you use a teleconverter with the very best lenses that Canon makes ( 300,400,500,600,800mm Supertelephotos) you are going to see image degradation. You will get better results by sticking with what you have and cropping.
