Does anyone have any insight as to reproducing moonlight in an outdoor setting using strobes??

I know this technique can also be achieved using still, or movie hotlights with Gels attached.. But I am determined to discover this using strobes...

Any particular gels that might work better than others??

Hi, I like ROSCO or LEE Gels for this effect and used to use an 80A Blue gel on the strobes or hotlights. However if you shoot digital you can also change your color balance settings to tungsten which also gives a nice blueish cast to the image. Another trick is to simply shoot at a few hours before sunset or just after and expose your aperture for your strobes and close down your shutter to speed to drop the ambient and this is an even better simulated late night shot. You could also combine all three tricks that I have mentioned above as I did in the image below. Best Regards. W.
