I have a 12GB Sandisk Extreme 3 card. Used it ibn my 20D and needed to format it, but it formatted it as an 8GB card, How do I get it back to 12GB? I've tried putting it into my computer and reformatting it, but it will only allow me to format it at 8GB.

I'm not sure if it runs on Vista but do a search for this free utility. It can reformat to the true capacity after the camera has messed it up.

HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool

This might help. Or go into XP's Disk Management tools under Administrative Tools and try repartitioning there. The 20D can only format a card to 8 GB.

It all depends. It may be an 8GB card that someone fooled into thinking it was 12GB, in which case you can't reformat it to 12GB. Unless you figure out some way to compress the information on it.

Sounds to me like you got a fake Sandisk card, since they don't make a 12GB Extreme III card. In fact, they don't make a 12GB compact flash of any version. So, you're stuck with the 8GB.

Where did you get the card from?

It is actually a 12GB card, and was working fine till I put it in the 20D and had to format it. I'm running Vista 64-bit, so I'll see if the HP program will work for me.

The HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool worked perfectly. Thanks!
