Hello all,

I just received my 70-200 2.8 L and I am having some serious issues with clarity and focus.

I was very very excited to get this lens but now I'm getting pretty angry that it doesn't even come close to focusing at both ends of the range.

Right now I have it on my XSI... I was using live view and I tried to focus on some berries on a shrub outside my window. I can't even come close to getting them in focus.

Am I doing something wrong or is my lens a junk copy?

Help!

Thanks!

I believe that Live View requires a specific setting to allow for auto focusing.

Try focusing on something that doesn't have a window in between it and the camera.

Oh, and an example picture would help.

Are you shooting through the window glass?

If so, that can really make a difference, particularly if the window isn't spotlessly clean or has a trace of condensation on it, which you might not notice just looking through it.

Before you start worrying about the quality of your 'L' glass, try some shots without household window glass as part of the optical path.

And, yes, pictures would help us diagnose the problem.

This probably isn't the case, but you're not within minimum focusing distance, are you?

I always manual focus in live view..

Anyway, I definitely jumped the gun with this thread and I apologize. I'm almost certain the only issue is the fact that I'm shooting through a window. The window is clean but it's definitely causing some sort of distortion. I can focus on objects indoors like a laser beam and holy crap this thing is bad ass.

Sorry for jumping the gun and I appreciate the responses! I'll let you all know how she performs when I shoot a weight lifting meet next weekend!
