My first L was the 17-40 about 7 months after my first DSLR and then bought a 70-200 f/2.8 IS about a week later as I was so impressed and am not looking to get the new 24-70 as the L collection is an addicting thing as many have said in this thread!

About 2 years after my T1i, I received the 100L from my husband for our anniversary. I absolutely love it. Now, I have my eye on the 70-200 f4L IS USM!!

My wife was actually the first in family to go to L :). She sprung for a 70-200 F4 L after shooting a couple of races with me and deciding she needed a faster AF.

100L. I wanted macro, and talked myself (easily) into stumping up for the L version. Love it. The start of a beautiful friendship.

Cheers, Damien

My first L lens was a 70-200 f4 L (non IS). Love it! I'd like to either get a 24-105mm f4 L or a 35mm L...

First DLSR back in 2005 was a 20D, complete with kit lens (which I didn't ever use), but an EF 28-135 was flexible enough to cover all of my needs initially. When I upgraded to a 50D, I invested in the 'brick' which will be with me for a while, no motivation to go to the second iteration quite yet... I had no idea at the time that one lens with a red ring would lead to a further four, with another on the way:cool:

My first was the 70-200 f/4 which has since been replaced with the IS version.

The very first L lens I touched was the 70-200 f/4L, but I sold my first two copies since they were part of a larger package and I had no use for them. Last week I bought my first L lens that I plan on actually using, the 24-70L mk2. Absolutely love it! Such an upgrade over manual primes.

~4 hours after I bought my first DSLR --> 70-200 f2.8L IS II (first lens I ever bought) --> 24-70 f2.8L a couple months later. It's a slippery slope from here.

70-200 mk ii was your first lens? Wow... I wish I had the cojones to pull that off!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

My first was the 400mm f/5.6. I liked it so much I bought a 70-200 f/2.8 MkII a few weeks later.
