off camera shoe cord 2 - problem

Off camera shoe cord 2
the section of the cord I push the flash onto appears to be slightly lose.
Now I'm not sure if that is a design feature or just some screws lose

The plate where the sensors are has about 2/3mm movement. when I tighten the flash onto the shoe I can still wooble the flash around slightly

Now I dont know if all the connectors are actuall connecting.

i get an zoom range reading/aperture reading and the flash fires but as posted

with example - the exposure on E-TTL does not seem correct on my Pro1.
1) Is it possible that this is a connection problem {even though I get Aperture and zoom readings}
2) How can I test all the connections are making contact
3) any idea how to repair - I read this http://www.eosdoc.com/​manuals.asp?q=fixOCSC2 but my shoe does appear to work quite the same - as the plate is also part of the curved metal that holds the flash.

There may be some radial movement of the flash on this shoe. (That is: slight movement if you try to rotate or twist the flash left and right while it is pointing straight ahead.)

There should be no movement if you try to rock the flash side to side.

I'm not familiar with the Pro-1 and its capabilites with an ETTL flash so I cannot comment on this usage but I suspect that it works much the same as my G3 and should give you most ETTL functionality.

From your example it appears that the flash fired in full manual mode. check the settings on the flash itself to be sure that it is indeed set to auto.

Test your 550EX by mounting it directly on the Pro-1. If the results are good, then you can suspect a problem with the cable.

Using a VOM you can eliminate problems in the cable itself by checking continuity of the 5 contacts + ground. The center conductor has a diode in series with the conductor so it will show open in one direction.

i'm still have not had much luck with this offshoe

I only have 5 connectors - 4 small and one large circle - so not sure where to measure, I do have a voltmeter but not sure how to measure this.

when i look at the connector the flash connects to on the off shoe cable - i notice a couple of things

1) the plate with the connectors on - moves up and down a little - so i'm not sure if the connector plate and the metal guides need to tightened in some way?
although i think the contacts are still made - but dont know how to test

2) when i screw down the lock screw on the 550EX flash gun it does not seem to reach the plate - is it suppose too?
