Time for some self evaluation with regards to the 5D features that I predicted back in Feb. Lets see how well I did.

If they increase resolution to 16.7mp - hurts 1DsMIII sales (Wrong)
If they increase speed to 5fps - hurts 1DsMIII sales(Right)
If they increase speed to 6.5 fps - hurts 40D and 1DMIII sales (Right)
If they add 51 point AF - hurts 1DsMII and 1DMIII sales(Right)
If they improve the LCD - no one cares (Wrong)

Well three out of 5 was rather dismal (60%). I guess I beat 50% so that's good. I really didn't think they where going to have high MP in the new 5D. I also didn't believe that people would jump to the new 5D because of a better LCD. But I never though of the video thing until the D90 came out.

So how did you fair with regards to your predictions. Link to your prediction.

Hell, .300 will get you a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract in baseball...

Considering no one really knew squat prior to its actual release, 60% for the collective hive mind is pretty good. ;)

I always thought the reason Canon did not upgrade the 5D was they didn't know what to do with it. Since improving it would eat into the 1D series, something I think Nikon understood well considering the D300, D3 and D700.

Can you imagine the MP's on the 1DsMkIV? Unless Canon gets around to realizing that MP's aren't the only thing going for a camera I can't wait to see how ridiculous it's going to get.

this is from APRIL 2007, so bear in mind we'd heard nothing of 6400 in cameras and digic II was current:

4fps using Digic III

Better AF (more sensors)
no dust sealing

more CFs and AFs
Better battery info
Same LCD, same size

I know most said the better LCD didn't matter to them, but in all honesty, it is an awesome feature to have! To be able to see clear, HD like images on a 3 inch screen really helps

After seeing the D300 screen, I would have to agree. That's why I marked myself wrong on that one.

yeah, I was one of them. I don't need it for image replay though and I STILL DON'T. But now that I have it it's AWESOME. I turned my 40D on for the first time last night and was surprised how ugly it was.... But for me it's the pixels per inch that bug me. I liked the old 5D screen way better than the 40D's because it was smaller. The new menus that go with the display obviously help.

Yup, the new 3" screens are really nice. And I love that Canon didn't move the buttons under the screen like they did with the 40D.

I liked it on my D3 because it was nice to show people the image and have it look like it would on a tv. Sharp, colors, and zoom in to view it.

I would think 24-25MP would be the max. Maybe they can get an ever higher ISO, but I suspect that these companies will begin to look at some real medium format systems in the next 2-3 years...

I think I was way off, I did not expect them even to go as high as 16mp and nothing about the movie setup. I did not expect the increased resolution on the screen, I haven't seen one yet but the screen on the 50D is incredible compared to my 5DI which is much better than the MKIII and IDsMKIII. So I guess it should far exceed my expectations except for two areas, I was concerned that the images be better IQ at lower ISO's for product work and I wanted far better outer ring focus improvement for everything but especially portraits than the 5DI currently has.

I was SO DARN SURE it would have the 45 point AF system. I figured canon HAD to answer to the D700. Well, they sure didn't. I was totally wrong. (and disappointed)

I predicted that everyone would whine and cry like they did about the 50D announcement. I was half right. It is interesting to see how close (and far off) some of the predictions were.
