I have the samsung 32" 720P lcd. Overall with image quality I have been very happy with it. As a gamer I am a bit disappointed that it has very few inputs compared to other tv's of the same size. The built in speakers are actually not that terrible, but I still plugged in my surround sound day one.I got it open box at best buy earlier this year for $550 so I can't complain about it, good TV. My dad recently got a sharp aquos of the same specs and it certainly doesn't seem any better, in fact he doesn't like it nearly as much as his sony bravia. I would say sony makes the best if you are willing to spend the extra, but I have been very happy with my samsung.

Thanks for the advice guys,
sorry for not getting back. I got the LG in a 37", it was on sale for lower than the cost of a Samsung 32"
(all in 720P variety)

And frankly it is awesome, the LG looks as good as the Samsung when calibrated (using my own eyes)
Ads mentioned many times I am sure, one MUST adjust the display settings from the factory stock, and wow do things look great.

It has 3 HDMI, one VGA, three "normal" video ins, and two "composite", as well as S-Video and Digital Toslink audio.

Highlights are,
Planet Earth BBC series in HD Blue Ray 720P Simply the most visually amazing sight!

Wall E in 720P! What a great cute film!

I am using a WD TV
http://www.newegg.com …2E16822136325&Tpk=WD%20TV (external link)

.. and the combo is near perfect!

I have the LG's audio stereo output connecting with my "stereo" (yes it's that old) but lacking a remote control on my circa 1970 power amp, and only having stereo, I am going to contemplate a low end affordable (sub $200.00) AV receiver to hook up a surround set up.

Anyway, thanks for he tips, and for those interested, do not fear the LG, it is a very solid bit of gear IMHO, and more likely to be found on sale than the other premium brands.

CDS, for sound check out the Edifier 550, I got it recently and it's like i've never heard the music before. Wow. NZ$550/US$300 or so. There was a thread on another forum recently with more recommendations, let me know if you want ideas from it.

I was stunned how much I loved that movie. it's genius!

Tim, I actually don't need a complete system,. I have the speakers (significantly better ones than would come with most any affordable 5.1 system package) including the surrounds center and sub, I've just never actually gotten an AV receiver to easily control it all.
The surrounds and center channel I have used to be attached to a "black box" that was an add on rear channel surround amp and decoder. It sucked and there was still no remote.. they are very good sounding Paradigm units, and match up well with my Allison Acoustics stereo pair.

on your recommendation, I went to get it in Blu Ray today. I decided it wasn't worth 35 bucks. Maybe time to join netflix again. For the fourth time.

The Sharp Aquos is an excellent TV but a little pricier. I recently purchased a 32" Samsung for the bedroom and love it, except for the friggin' tones it plays when powering on or off

My 40" Samsung doesn't play tones turning on and off.

Neither does my 32". There might be a menu option to turn it off...
