I shot this pictures from the plane traveling from Miami, Fl. to México City, I have luck that my window was clean and without a lot of scratches as usual.

What do you think?

Both taken with Canon Powershot S70.

The first one:
1/500 sec
f/5.6

The second one:
1/800 sec
f/5.6

Have a nice day!

Very nice, I have a few like that also. It's hard to get good shots through that half a foot of glass.

Thanks Michael.
Yes its hard to get good shots from that airplane windows, most of the time you have a lot of scratches and reflections, even if you put the lens of the camera almost stick to the window, as I do in this two shots.

Cheers!

Fer,

Miami was great! Great weather, I went to a lot of places, food & wine festival, great restaurants, south beach, sunny isles, sawgrass mills, coral gables, key biscaine, shopping jeje but no pictures at all... I was told, to enjoy the vacation and not to be worried about my camera all time jeje so my camera was like kidnapped by a drawer... jejeje

thanks for asking!

thanks for the comments. It was bright, but not to risky, and I wasnt looking thru the camera, because its a S70, if it were a SLR or DSLR one, yes, the sun can hurt your eyes.

cheers! :D

FOR THE SECOND ONE:

Date Digitized: 2005-02-27 16:56:28
Date Modified: 2005-02-27 16:56:28

Bytes: 2311131

Also, I have luck that the plane window was clean and without a lot of scratches as usual. I try to put the lens of the camera as closer to window as I can. If you look at the exif, you can see the exposure time is very fast. The plane is moving very very fast, and normally the clouds are moving too, so you have to shot fast, this two shots are 2 of 20 or more. Because in others I get reflections on the window, movement, etc.

Depending on the situation, you have to see what its best for your photos, wich mode you have to use. As I see in this post and in another you have too an S70, use it in the Automodes, then look the diferences in the exif of each one. Try shot different situations, using automode, to see what the camera make in each photo. Try to understand it. Why the camera did or did not use flash, why the camera shot to fast or to slow, try to remember what the light conditions where. Once you understand a little bit about how it works, try the creative zone (tv, av, etc), and try to adjust the values as you like, or thought.

Here in the forums, and in other pages, are a lot of tutorials, in how to use this functions, light conditions, movement, etc.

Cheers.

let me ask this as well:

two things.
1) say i have a photo in (for terms and purposes) 100x100. then i resize it to 50x50. is the quality better or the same as just taking a picture at 50x50?
2) when saving as raw instead of jpg does that change the actual quality at all or just the ability to manipulate?

i typed in s70 last night and did a search ont he camera. unfortunately the instruction manual is kinda poopy and there isnt too much specifc information on this forum regarding how to take pics on that particular camera that i could find, i spent a lto of time and about 7 pages of results.
i found most threads are about should i buy the camera etc rather than taking pics with it, with a few exceptions (this being one)

Matthew

let me tell you that the functions of the S70 and the functions of other cameras in this forum are almost the same, what it changes its the lens, the sensor, etc.

In order to get to now your camera you will need to know the basic functions of it, and some basic concepts, like aperture, exposure, etc. Try looking out, for Digital Photography Tutorials here in the forum, there are links to other pages with great explanations about how to do photography. Once you understand all the concepts involving photography, then you can go to your camera, and you will understand its functions. (that are the same as others).

Try:

https://photography-on-the.net …62494&highlight=tutorials

https://photography-on-the.net …49390&highlight=tutorials

https://photography-on-the.net …30767&highlight=tutorials

https://photography-on-the.net …=5612&highlight=tutorials

https://photography-on-the.net …=1783&highlight=tutorials

I'm sure in those threads you will find the info you want. But remeber you first need to learn the basics of photography to understand what the camera is doing and why.

Regarding to your specific questions.

1) There are two diferente kind of sizes in a digital photo, one is the dimension and the other is the resolution. You could have a 100x100 foto or a 50x50 foto, at the same pixels per inch (ppi or dpi). So depending what you need its the resolution and size you choose. But if you have a 7.1mp camera, use them. I always shot with the large format, with superfine.
2) And it depends what I'm shooting, I use jpg or raw.

I recomend you first use jpg, when you understand a lot more, go to raw and make your own adjustments in Photoshop.

Cheers.
