Hi All,

I'm able to get an employee discount on a Dell computer. I see that Dell now offers a free OS downgrade from Vista to XP Pro on some of its computers. I really like XP and would like to stick with it as long as I can.

There are so many choices when it comes to models and display types. Some display types include WXGA+ and WUXGA. It is all very confusing. I currently own an older Dell laptop and have had difficulty calibrating the LCD. Also, depending on the tilt of the display my screen colors look different, which is frustrating when trying to match colors with prints.

I don't have PhotoShop, but I do use LR 2.0, DPP, and Paint Shop Pro X2. I cannot spend over $2000. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what would be a good laptop screen type, or maybe even suggest an actual Dell laptop that would work well for digital photo work?

Thanks,
~Dom

Dom,

Just about any new laptop you buy now is going to have a much better than your "older Dell laptop"....I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about all the different display types.

If you get a Dell that has the Full Hi Definition resolution (1920x1200 pixels), you should have a nice screen.

As far as what models you should be checking out, I would think the XPS lineup at Dell would probably be where you'd want to start looking, especially if you have up to $2000 to spend. Those are generally the best that Dell has to offer. Now, as to whether it can be optimized to run XP Pro....that's something I really can't answer.

Look closely at the discount and the sale or deal price. I have found that our discount is high. But I may not understand how this works
