Hi all. Can any of you tell me what the shutter life of the Powershot Pro 1 is? I am sure it is in the manual somewhere but I did not see it.

Thanks so much,
Art Boyd

Thanks all and "HAPPY SHOOTING",

Do you mean "shutter lag"? (I don't think they're going to tell you have many depressions you get before shutter death.)

If so, try "Powershot Pro 1 Shutter Lag" in Google. It's been described as "minimal," which isn't a number.

Cheers,

Don

Maybe he's referring to the lifespan of the shutter........I've heard of people getting up to 100,000 frames before their digicam dies, so don't worry! (just take good care of your Pro 1)

Yes, you're right. I was referring to shutter life. I hear about it with the Canon pro dslrs but not with the point and shoots. On the average i take very good care of my equipment. These cameras are not exactly cheap to come by.

Many thanks,
Art

Hi Art,

I would venture to say that the Pro 2, and Pro 3 will have been released before you have to worry about your Pro 1 dying of natural causes!

The digital SLRs have a mechanical shutter that actually opens and closes to expose the sensor. Because of this physical movement, there is a set number of actualions designed into these shutters. It's about 50,000 for the consumer/prosumer DSLR and about 250,000 actuations for the the professional models.

The P&S cameras, however, do not really have a mechanical shutter like their film counterparts do. The shutter function of digital P&S cameras are controlled electronically since the sensors are always on to allow live previewing of the subject. I think that other mechanical parts of the camera, such as, say, the lens zoom mechanism, will wear out long before the "shutter" does.

Allright, now all of you have reawakened all my paranoiaed reflexes! Let's say that all of our beloved cameras are capable of funtionioning forever, but have been programed to shut down after a predetermined number of exposuses?!? You can laugh it off easily, untill you start considering how complex the different exposure, focusing, and flash programs that are available in the most modest of point and shoots! If Canon ( & et al) have the technology to program a $200 P&S to meter an instant in time, with the same accuracey as a $500 stand alone light meter, you have to assume that they may be able to program a finate life span into each product as well.

You will laugh at my ramblings until it's divulged that Dick Cheney was responsible for the original desingn of the Silver 300D.(Ted Kennedy wanted all black, with the Kiss logo)!

I think both the words "Rebel" and "Kiss" were originally coined by Bill Clinton after failing to take out Bin Laden in 1993 after the failed WTC bombing...either that or when he met Monica L. :p

well, they don't... so there's no reason to be paranoid.
