I recently installed CS4 and both the x86 and 64-Bit versions were installed, likely because I have 64bit capability. That's fine and well except CS4 64b doesn't work with my plug-ins yet. Therefore I want to open my images with the x86 version of Photoshop, but it won't let me. I have to manually open the x86 and then browse for my file to open. I tried changing my file associations and it will not let me choose the non-64b version - it simply does nothing after I select it. I tried renaming the 64b version and that worked to remove it from the choices, except now my image files are not associated with any program and it still won't let me associate them the x86 CS4.
I'm using Vista and I know how to do file associations, so we can skip that part. Control Panel -> 'Make a file always open in a specific program' -> Click on CR2 -> Change Program -> Browse -> Find the x86 version
So, what could be the issue and any possible solutions? I do not want to remove the 64bit version if I don't have to because I'll assume that eventually the plug-ins will be updated to work with it.
Edit: There isn't even an option to just remove the 64-bit version. When you try to uninstall the 64b version it checks the x86 version as well and won't let you uncheck it... *shakes head*
