I noticed both the newer models supports video files. Does anyone know if there's any software update for the P3000 to support video files?

Not that I have heard of. My guess is with the release of these newer picture viewers, Epson is going to stop supporting the older models with any newer features...

The latest firmware revision on Epson.com for the P-3000 is dated 11/28/07. It does contain some video fixes, so this firmware might help, if you don't already have it.

The P-3000 and P-5000 already support videos.

Well, the P3000 that I have will download the video files from my Powershot G9 but it won't play them. It just shows a "?" on the file. It will play an mp3 if I've downloaded it to the P3000.

Am I missing a firmware update that will allow it to play downloaded movies from the G9?

Doug,

I just shot a short video with my G9 and backed it up on my P-5000. It played fine on the P-5000. The video file shot by the G9 was a .AVI file. Further, according to the P-3000/5000 manual I have, the units support the following video files: .avi, .mov, .mpg, .wmv, .divx, .mp4, plus a few others. In theory, the video you shot should play, unless your P-3000 can't support videos.

The firmware version on my unit is 01.10.01.00. The Epson support page shows some firmware updates for the P-3000:

You may want to check those out.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help. My firmware version is 01.20.01.00 so I think it's newer than yours? The movies from my G9 show up as AVI files also on the Epson & they have a "?" over the thumbnail (no picture of the movie, just blank space) and when I try to play it it says "Cannot play this video. The file may be damaged or unsupported." I know they're not damaged because they play fine when downloaded to the computer.

I wonder why mine won't play them?

Did you transfer both the AVI and the THM files over?

Yes, I simply downloaded all the image & movie files from my SD card.

After finding the firmware updates, I updated my Epson to 01.20.01.00.

What happens if you transfer the AVI file in the G9 directly to your regular computer? Can you play it in Windows Media player or Quicktime?

Well, I didn't transfer the file directly fromthe G9 to the computer but from the G9 to the Epson to the computer. The files play fine on the computer w/WMP.

With the updated firmware, AVI files from my G9 play fine on all 3 devices (G9, my iMac, and the Epson P-5000). Seems like your Epson has the issue. I have no idea what that may be. :(

Just to be clear, you used the File Backup function on the Epson to do this, right?

Yes. The movie files were displayed as I described above. Subsequently, while on the 2 week trip, I did move all the files on the Epson from their respective backup files to one master folder. After doing that, nothing changed regarding how the AVI files are displayed or that they don't play.
