There is not a lot left, but it looks like it has a pointed snout which means it's probably a shrew. Good capture.

Great catch Carlton. It looks like a mouse to me. Our shrews here have short tails (external link).

If mouse or shrew, the bird is in a perfect light, great shot.

John, the caption for this pic found in Google images was, "Northern Short-Tailed Shrew; Comparison of Northern Short-Tailed Shrew and Eastern Mole".

My yard is full of shrews, I'm pretty sure I know what they are. I have watched them tunnul up under piles of dropped sunflower seeds. Don't ask me how they know. :)

Seems we have different names for the same creatures. I googled shrew and came up with a small mouse like mammal with a pointed nose. My cat brought one in which was playing dead, I held it for a while and it suddenly ran down my leg and ran for the open door. Last seen disappearing down a hole under the patio. :-)
Apparently we have five types here.

Yep, I found the same thing. There are several different kinds. Growing up in the Northern Midwest though, all I ever saw was the short tailed ones, almost no tail at all and a pointy face.
