Hi

Fairly new here, not sure it is okay to post items from news websites, but found this interesting. If unsuitable, i fully understand:

"American golfer John Daly grabbed a spectator's camera and smashed it into a tree during the first round of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney on Thursday."

http://nz.sports.yahoo.com …-smashes-fans-camera-tree (external link)

I wonder of the golfer was frustrated at the sound of the shutter being tripped, or just frustrated full stop?

Daly was obviously frustrated. As a golfer/photographer, I see things from both perspectives... I don't know the rules in Australia, but here in the U.S., the spectators are not allowed to bring cameras inside the golf course when the competition is under way unless they have the press pass. If the rules are the same in Australia, that fellow deserved having his camera kiss the tree.

Yeah, you'd think he would have 'twigged' to it. Somebody should have told him to 'leave', then his camera wouldn't be 'rooted'.

Maybe it's different in AUS but in the US, fans are strictily forbidden from bringing cameras in on competition days (Thurs-Sun)

Knucklead fan was playing with fire considering JD was enroute to shooting a 78 and was probably not in a good mood to begin with.

Practice and Pro Am days are the only days they're allowed...

JD is known for his outbursts - he was paid a 'show up' fee to be at the comp just to try and get more paying public through the gates - and it worked. Unless he pulls something out of the hat tomorrow he won't be in the running for the bigger bucks - but he still walks with some cash in his pocket.

He also offered to replace the camera.

I'd ask for 1Ds Mark III... I don't think John knows the difference nor would he care...;)

The camera hit the tree, but Daly didn't hit any birdies - or an eagle for that matter

From the article: "Clegg accepted he had breached entry conditions which clearly state that spectators cannot carry cameras or mobile phones."
