Well, after 2 weeks of computer problems, and a bunch of other stuff keeping me busy, I've finally gotten a bit of time to work on culling and processing the many images I brought back from Guyana.

I'm about 2/3's of the way through the initial cull & process phase, and I thought I'd take a few moments to set some up for this board, and post 'em up. I have gone back and forth about what order to present what images, and I figured I'd just keep doing it grab-bag style: take 8 or so at a time and just post whatever grabbed my attention.

This batch has no "wild" Giant Otters. I've got one from each of the otters in rehab. There is one of Sappho eating (Sappho is a 1 1/2 year old female), and one of Tsunami running (Tsunami is a 3 1/2 month old male cub). I love the expression in Sappho's shot :) Beyond that, they are what they are.

The EXIF should be intact if you are interested. Any shots take at either 400mm or 560mm were taken on land. All other shots were taken from a boat - usually moving. Once again, I wish I'd had a 300 IS or the 400 DO IS for the boat. Next time I'll know better :)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words Mega. We saw lots of cayman there. Most Black Cayman but a few Spectacled as well. Glad you liked the photos.

Thanks Khaja. The lighting was really brutal when I took that image - it was close to noon. Fortunately I was able to get on the "right" side of the bird for the photos. That image was taken with my 400mm plus the 1.4 Ex extender. I'm pleased with the detail of that combo - even though it means manual focus.

Thanks TOmmy. The Giant Otters really seem to relish their meals. They make all kinds of cool sounds when they get to eating. They also eat just about everything - bones and all. They only seem to leave the fish heads of catfish. For other fish (pirhana, bass, etc.) they leave nothing.

Great shots. How far away were you for the cayman and the 1st otter shot? Just curious.
