I'm really new at softboxes.

I'm planning on buying my first softbox.

it says that a speed ring is required. I'm basically want to use my 580ex II with it. How can do that?
how can I attach it to a lightstand?

thank you

That's one big SB for hot shoe flash.

Look at post by Robert TMR. he might have some bracket to mount speed lights.

If you looking for something smaller than there are more options. Photoflex has small and extra small SB for use with hot shoe flash. Come with speed right and you need to buy adapter thing to connect flash and to the lighstand through umbrella adapter.

I know it's kinda big. but I've been searching, and someone mentioned that a speed light can be used with a 50" westcott SB.

I was thinking of getting the westcott, but at 2x the price, I'll go with a cheaper interfit.

the SB would be off camera if you plan to use a large one. You'd need an L bracket of some kind to mount the flash, and also mount the box. There are several thread on this topic; search is your friend. Try speedlight softbox as your search arguments.
