Has anyone experienced failure to get an auto focus assist beam to activate on their 1DMKIIN? I have 3 flashes (2 Canon and 1 Sunpack) that will not activate on my 1DMKIIN yet all activate just fine on my older 10D. I don't have any personal functions set and can't seem to find any reason in the custom functions that suggest they would impact the focus assist beam.

Make sure the you have the camera in "One Shot" focus mode. The flash focus assist beam is inactive in AV Servo mode.

Alright!! Frank. Thank you so much. Seems like no matter how many times I looked thru the manual(s) I could not find the reason. Since I shoot sports for the most part I have had it set to AI Servo and have just left it there. Works like it should.

Now that explains my shooting problems last night!!!! Thank you. I did instinctively change back to single shot mode anyways and it came back, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together due to beers + noisy environment + work function + lots of pretty girls I was checking out! Well, 1 pretty girl actually ;-)a
