Santa may be delivering a lens under the tree. Although he needs help.
I currently use the 17-85 or the 28-135 as my primary walk around lens.
I am looking at getting either a new Canon 17-55 IS or the 24-105L or a wide angle, Canon 10-22.
Any help and suggestions would be great.
Hopefully I was a good boy this year.

if this is for a general walk-around lens, id definitely go with the 17-55, but it realyl depends on what you shoot.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I do like to shoot low light without flash. Also indoor gyms for my son's basketball league. I have used the 50 and 85 primary's I have listed below with nice results. I do like the longer reach of the 24-105 L also.
Like so many, it's a tough choice.

Wow! Lucky you. And looking at your sig, you've already got a big collection.
Here's my tu'pence worth:
I've got the EF-S10-22mm. It's great fun. Can really distort if you're feeling artistic. Great quality. Well built. "Feels" great to use. Not the fastest, but hey! Can't have everything.
The 17-55 f/2.8 IS has had amazing reviews. It's not what I need, but on your crop body, would be a brilliant piece of glass. If you went down that route, you could even sell your 18-55, 17-85 and 28-135 so as to force yourself to being more creative, and using your primes more, plus some "foot" zooming.
So....it boils down to what do you want to shoot...

There are plenty of threads about these options. The 10-22mm is not going to do much for you in gyms. End of. Think you might struggle for light with the 24-105 f4 indoors, too. Your current primes will be better. So for walkabout, get the 17-55 f/2.8 IS. Job done.
Then you can consider the 10-22 if/when you want to get into some more freaky ultra-wide stuff. Or the amazing 70-200L f/2.8 IS or the 135L f2 if you really get 'into' indoor action.
Happy holidays, no matter what you choose.

_______________
Canon 40D, Rebel XTi, Canon Lenses 17-85 IS USM, 18-55 IS, 28-135 IS USM, 50 1.4 USM, 85 1.8 USM,
70-300 IS USM, 100-400 L IS USM, 430EX Speedlite.

The 17-55 is a great lens, but that would give you 3 lenses in the same focal length. The 24-105 is also a good lens, but that would give you 2 lenses in the same focal range. Looks like the 10-22 is about the only thing you don't have covered.

Not considering your existing gear, I've always thought that the 17-55 & 70-200 or the 10-22 & 24-105 made nice combinations.

If you want an honest opinion, I would sell your 17-85, 28-135, 70-300, and 18-55.

I would then replace those with either a 17-55 2.8 is or 24-70 2.8L AND a 70-200 2.8 (is) if possible.

I am in the same situation as you with indoor kids sports. My sons played b-ball and my daughter swims (indoor) and so 2.8 is the highest i can go.

Well said Iqba.
That me be the goal down the road. We think alike.

It's probably because we are shooting the same types of subjects.
I almost traded my 70-200 2.8 for a 100-400 (great deal for me) but after using it at my daughter's swim meet last weekend, I remember how much I loved it!
just ask for one of those lens for xmas and i'm sure you could sell all your lenses within a week (If priced right) and pick up the other one.

The only thing i wish I had was IS (and a 1diii) :)

I can tell you that the EF-S 10-22 is a great combo with the 28-135. Their focal lengths are quite complementary. Build quality is excellent, and the optics are top-notch for a non-L. There's significant distortion at the wide end (duh) and I don't use it a lot, but when I do, it's a whole lot of fun. For example:

Personally, I'd love to get that 24-105 L, which would pair very well with the 10-22, but that's not an option here, is it? ;) I'm happy with my 28-135, but yes, I'd happily swap it for that L.
