I got my camera july 2008 as a 21st present.
i have taken photos non stop this past month, no problems with mine.
i had used it occassionally before then, but had to graduate, and make sure all my assignments were done before this date lol.
I havent got any complaints about my camera yet and hope to have none that arise

i have XSi, and have problem with battery. it's always displayed as full
so, i'm shooting photos, and suddenly autofocus stops working. or it focuses but won't take pictures. that's when i know that the battery nees recharge :)
i'm wondering if anyone has simmilar problems?

From what you are saying, it sounds to me like if you took the battery out then immediately put the battery back in (do not recharge the battery) I think you will find the camera will start working properly again.

You are having the same problem I am having. The camera is not getting proper connection between the battery and the camera.

This is an update. I sent my camera in to Canon January 5th then received it back January 28th. My wife and I drove to an area 90 miles south to look for eagles I was told was in the area to photograph. Unfortunately we did not see any eagles.

One of the reasons I wanted to go look for the eagles was to try out my camera after getting it back from Canon because of the problem I was having with taking pictures, and after a few shots the camera would stop working properly.

I found out that Canon did not fix my problem at all. The camera is still doing the same exact thing I sent it in for. To say I am not happy with Canon is an @#%@&@ understatement. I was without my camera for 3 1/2 weeks for nothing. I will be giving them a call Monday to complain. I will not be sending it back right away as we are going to Virginia next month to watch our 7 yr old grandson play basketball. Even then I really do not want to go without the camera for another 3 1/2 weeks and HOPE they can fix it this time. It only took me 15 shots within 1/2 hour to find the camera was not working. Surely they could have spent some time testing the camera better than they did.

I had the same problems with my Digital Rebel. I was closing the battery door very lightly instead of pushing it in where you can hear a click. After I started pushing the door closed securely and hearing the click, the problem went away.

I do not believe that is my problem. I have always closed my battery door securely. Just now I looked at my battery door and could not force it any tighter.

Do you have a second battery? Maybe the one you have has bad contacts or something. I know my XSi starts acting weird when the battery is wearing down...and the battery meter sometimes still shows "full charge", but in reality the battery is nearly-dead.

I think, before I'd send it back in, I'd get a battery at a local camera shop (you can always return it if you find it's not the problem) and try it out with a full charge. Also, when you sent it to Canon, did you send your battery? Maybe they used their own battery and found no problems. Did the "work order" thing they send out with warranty repairs say they did anything to your camera, or just found it "in spec"?

Yes I do have a second battery, and it does not appear to be the battery that is the problem as it will do this with either battery.

And yes, I sent both batteries into Canon along with my camera body.

Thank you for the suggestion and trying to help :)
