I would have to agree with Chris on that one. AF is slow and the motor noise can draw some weird looks from 70-200 users. ;)

That being said, It's small, light, and the push/pull zooming is much faster.

I've had a 100-300 f5.6 since about 1989. After lending it to my brother is the tropics it came back all mouldy. So I bought an L version about a week ago. I gave it a whirl with some Nikon diopters last weekend and this weekend at the model boat club.

Some flowers poking through that back fence at about 1:1

Used gear: If it was good enough for a Pro 10 years ago it will be good enough for me now

Gorgeous.

Thank you. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with this lens in terms of raw IQ. Is anyone else using this guy on FF, because it seems to work great on my 5d classic. Sharp and very contrasty imo all the way to 300mm. I don't have anything in the focal length to compare it to, though...

I did some casual shooting while on my walk today, and I'll post a couple when they finish uploading.

Some shots from today. No editing aside from resize and slight sharpen for the resize. Natural light:

Let's be honest, if someone captures a humming bird in flight with this lens' auto-focus, they deserve a friggin' trophy!
;)
