Pre-post disclaimer:
I am not interested in buying a 5D; I prefer (and arguably, NEED) bodies with pro construction. I am moving away from Canon at this time (for the first time in my twenty-three years of big-boy camera use). I have no vested interest here; I'm just making observations and comments.
I just thought I'd take a moment to publicly express my distaste for the fellas who are buying hard-to-find 5D Mark II cameras, only to turn around to sell them at a jacked-up price...PARTICULARLY (but not only) when their sole purpose in buying was to try and turn a profit in the re-sale. This kind of scamming is dishonorable and creates an artificial shortage, and it should be illegal. And may I remind these sellers that karma can be a ****.
My advice to anyone looking for a 5D Mark II body:
Have a little patience. Flatly refuse to pay even a dollar more for a used 5DM2 (even "new in sealed box") than you would pay at a reputable camera dealer. Just as with the price of gasoline, it's all about supply and demand. If you refuse to pay more than the dealer price, the scammers will leave the game and very soon, you'll start seeing 5DM2's in stock at your favorite shop. I would wager that for 99%+ of you, your current camera will be more than capable of producing quality images until the crisis is over. A little patience could save you hundreds of dollars. One guy on this forum has a 5DM2 (body only) he's trying to sell for $3500!
My favorite local dealer has a bit of a waiting list for these cameras, but he's still selling them at $2699 (same as B&H).
Note: Obviously what will follow this post is not going to amount to a love-in. I apologize to the good people of this forum community in advance for what will likely follow, and it's not hard to project that this thread may quickly be locked or deleted, but at least I will have voiced where I stand on the issue. That is all.
