Ive been eyeing the new Elinchrom BX series. But on the product page of Tronix these stobes arent supported. Does anyone know another way to use these strobes outside? Another option is buying a Tronix explorer. Elincrom RX units and RX skyports; but thats way more expensive.

Hi Roger,

Unfortunately that is the downside of the BX strobes. They will not work correctly with the Tronix. Unless you have access to electricity there is no good solution for using the BX's on location. If you want to use Elinchrom strobes for shooting on location you really need to be using either RX monolights or the Ranger series pack and head.

Robert, the Dlites work on location, though, right? Vagabond or Tronix....

Hi Geoff,

I found I was able to use 2 D-Lite 2's (400ws) with the Vagabond II or 1 D-Lite 4 (also 400ws) but I could not power 2 D-Lite 4's with success. As soon as the second strobe was plugged in it become very unstable with misfires and errors from the strobes. Based on that I would say (although I couldn't guarantee) that you can power 400ws using an Elinchrom multi-voltage strobe, but no more. I did not test this with a Tronix but I suspect you would get the same results.

Robert,

You were able to power 1 400BX w/ the Vagabond II right?

I'm still in one light mode when it comes to using strobes on location anyway so this wouldn't be a deal breaker. Besides, it's still cheaper to buy a second or third VII to power multiple BXs on location. Wee bit on the heavy side though :)

I don't suppose you tried powering a BX and an AB at the same time? I know it's not recommended to mix strobes of varying power levels and especially brands, but I'm still curious.

Hey Jeremy,

Let me clarify. I never tested a BX with the Vagabond II. The only strobes I used were the D-Lite 2's and 4's so I can't say if the BX would be the same. I would like to think that 1 400BX would work just as a single D-Lite 4 did but I wouldn't want to make that recommendation without having actually done it to know for sure.
