Hi all, I have a friend that is after a basic point-and-shoot that will give her optimal image quality. She doesn't care about getting a super zoom, but mostly wants it for pictures of the grandkids and craft projects she's working on. Her main requirements would be:

Wide Angle
Image Stabilized
EASY TO USE
Best image quality possible
Decent battery life
$500 or less

Any recommendations? I know nothing about point-and-shoot!

Thanks

Canon's line, the SD890. Well, except for maybe the G10 they're all under $500. Actually, I might incline to suggest the SX10IS. It looks like a lot of camera, but it's big enough she'll be able to hold it easily, and that means more steadily. IMO the SD series are so small as to invite shaky holding techniques.

Can I venture out on a limb and suggest the Panasonic LX3?

Wide Angle... yes, very
Image Stabilized... yes
EASY TO USE... haven't used it first hand, but this is subjective (be best to let her test)
Best image quality possible... quite good, even at higher ISO
Decent battery life... pretty good
$500 or less... price fluctuates, but it's $418 at amazon right now and $420 at B&H.

There are some good reviews (as in reviews that are good to rear) out there already as well.

Thanks Mull, but she went with the SX10is.

Thanks to all who helped!
