I love my battery grip (BG-E2N) for my 40D when shooting portrait sports pictures, but I'm having a hard time using the "AF-ON". I shoot in Al Servo mode and use the custom fuction "Metering start/Meter+AF start" when I'm shooting basketball, but I haven't figured out how to hold the grip and press the "AF-On: button.

Thanks,

Check your CF settings. The 1D3 has one (IV-2?) that lets you swap the AF-on and * functions. The 40D should as well.

Yep. On the 40D custom function IV-2 is "AF-ON/AE lock button switch", too.
