I wouldn't be very surprised if their company (be it the newspaper or what ever), helped or did/does pay for their equipment (much like a school yearbook, the kids don't care [or even know how to use] about the camera).

While our yearbook had a T1i, the two of us who did the most photographing used our own cameras.

the 70-200 F4 or F4IS doesnt come with a tripod ring I believe, does that mean canon thinks its ok to mount it via the camera on a tripod ? I cant imagine the mount is so weak on the bodies, especially xxO series and up, I mean you would have to allways be so carefull even when handholding, walking around etc.. ??

I imagine the weight of the lens isn't enough to throw a good ballhead out of whack. The heavier lenses have mounts because the weight of the lens can drag even on a decent ballhead. Having the mount on the lens makes for a nice balance, and is even effective with 1D bodies.

so you're suggesting i can carry around our 1D IV with our 400 2.8IS on it, buy the body? the lens weighs 20lbs. :)

Heh! I'm not suggesting you should do anything but what works for you! But the tripod mounts, from what I can tell, are primarily for load balancing. I use a monopod frequently with a couple different lenses and it makes a difference, even though I don't hesitate to carry them with a camera strap.

Although I get where you guys are coming from.... no it is not good to leave a heavier lens with a camera on a tripod attached to the cameras tripod mount... however people seriously underestimate the strength of these cameras. I forgot where the thread was or if it was even a Potn thread, but I saw a story with pictures of a guy that forgot his camera ontop of his car, a rebel with a tamron 17-50 2.8 attached i believe? or maybe one of their superzooms... anyway he didn't remember it and by the time he was going 30 or so the camera fell off, hit the cement, the lens broke... the lenses mount to the body was still on the camera and the body was in fine condition. Those lens mounts can take some stress

It was easy! Turn on iPhone 4 camera, point 5D at it, take picture, upload to internets. :D

Nice contrast from the dark blue background to the light background within the iPhone screen. Very cool

Oo I like everything about this picture. Your watch, the way your thumb grips the phone, how your fingers seem to touch your finger on the screen, the shadows around the phone, the attractive blue background and bright screen, even the way you got your little watermark faded into the black bit of the background. I just like it.
