The 17-40L's hood looks and is pretty much useless since it is for 17mm.

IMO the 1D looks even better with a 24-70L with a proper hood for 24mm and 70mm, keep the rain off too:

Nice rig, I read that there's another hood that works with the 17-40 L. I'd prefer the hood to be functional

Got the camera, grip, 100mm, and 16-35mm today. Got the 85mm a couple weeks ago. BIG difference from my previous 300D!:D

Wow, that is a heck of an upgrade from a 300D! Since you got so much at the same time how are you going to divide your time between all the new tools? Something's going to get left out. ;)

i think the 1.4x might look odd on a 70-200 f4 (its wider than the barrel of the 2.8 by a little bit)

EW-83J works well for the 17-40.

the reversed lens says 24-105mm on the barrel, but only goes up to 70mm on the zoom ring:confused: is that how all the 28-105's are?

edit: nm, i see it under the glare; must be time to get outta the house again.

I thought my macro setup was jury rigged but apparently not that bad...

I'd like to use a 1D but if I turn my FD->EF mount converter all the way until it clicks then the 1D gives err 01's since there is no electrical connection to the lens. I'm afraid I'm going to drop my lens on the ground one day so I guess I need one of those converters that has the electrics so you can turn it to the click stop. Anyways, my 40D doesn't complain so this is my setup with the old Canon FD 200mm f/2.8 SSC (nice for long working distance) and Canon FD 50mm f/3.5 SSC macro (better for high magnification) and Vivitar extension tube set (12mm, 20mm and 36mm):
