What is the model number/name of this camera? Is it film or digital?

Where have you been for the past year... ;)

You know, I check this thread, but it occured to me that I hadn't posted anything here about my 5DC and the lens falloff!

Some of you have seen this in other places, so you can ignore this post:)!

Anyway I was shooting at the local 4th of July festival, when with a little "clatter", the 5D quit on me and I quickly realized that the legendary mirror falloff had happened. Fortunately, I have my trusty old 30D as a lightweight backup. I also have my trusty old 1DM3, but it's bigger and I don't think of it as a backup:)!

So, on July 6th after a round of communication with the Canon service center I put the poor 5DC and the 30D in my backpack and made a quick bike ride to the nearby UPS store:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136205377/original.jpg

The poor thing had no lens, no strap, no battery...it was looking pretty forlorn:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/136205378/original.jpg

The UPS folks wrapped, boxed it and shipped it the next day, and so I began using the 30D as my "out and about" camera for the first time in I guess four years!

Then, three weeks later the doorbell rang, and a UPS guy was standing there with a box, which he handed to me in exchange for a signature:

Now, the not-so-good news. There were a lot of spots on the sensor, even though the paperwork said that they had cleaned the sensor.

I did multiple wet-cleanings along with a liberal use of the Rocket Blower, which finally got rid of the actual dust, but...

There is a "thing" that would not budge -- it's a small curved spot in the lower half that as far as I can tell must be damage from the mirror falloff -- I don't know, I don't have a sensor loupe to really examine things in there, I just wish it wasn't there, and I hate the idea of sending the thing back...

Well, dang, anyway, that's the story! I don't know how it will end!

Nice rig.
Tony, sucks to hear the news but you should send it back. Have them do whatever it takes to get that sensor but to snuff. And now that we all have your address...

Heh! The party sounds good!

As to sending the camera back in, gosh, I guess I need to -- it means another round of email and hopefully they won't make a fuss. At least I got most of the dust cleaned off but it was a hassle -- I think the work they did on it probably let it in...

Very cool! But where's the 17-40?
And a question... why the 50L and not the 1.4?

17-40 is in the bottom left.

I used the 50 1.4 before and liked it, but I heard good things about the 50L, and they weren't lying. It's fantastic. The build quality is amazing, and f/1.2 looks great. Plus, since it was my first wedding, I wanted to do it right.

What hood is there bottom left? The 50L's?

So... isn't the 50L that soft compared to the 1.4?

Yeah. It fit better without the hood next to the 5D, so I just put it on top of the 17-40.

I didn't have any problems with it being soft. It took a while to get used to having such a shallow DOF, especially on a full frame. Other than that, it was probably my favorite of the lenses that I rented, which actually surprised me.

My suggestion would be to try them both.
