AWESOME shots of the EOS 5, 5D and the 5D2.

Just a question though - I believe that the EOS 5 and the 5D aren't necessarily related to each other, right?

Well they're both Canon EOS cameras, but one is a film camera and the other is digital. The EOS 5 was made from 1992 to 2002 and was the world's first SLR with eye-controlled focus.

Does anyone know why Canon stopped making cameras with that feature?

Cause it's more of a gimmick than a useful feature (IMO, of course).

Nah, I don't think so.
I agree that it's not THAT useful, but since they have the technology, why not keep shipping it with the top-line cameras?

I don't think it is. I liked that feature a lot. And it worked very well.

The question is probably more how easy it would be to get it to work for cameras with even more focus points.

They got it working with the 45-point AF of the EOS 3!!!
At least that could have been marketed with all the 1D/1Ds line until the Mk.4 generation (me thinks...)!

As far as specs go I feel like the D800 has better specs so far. We will see how they compare once they're finally out ;)

I have never tested a EOS 3, but if they got good function with 45 points too, then they should spank themselves for dropping the feature from the digital line. Eye tracking saves time and very much affects perceived value of a product.

Speaking of the EOS 5, when's the last time you saw this combo? :D

Why? ;) Just because of the 36Mp? ;)

Relax. Canon won't let themselves be "eaten". :)

Haven't yet. :) First time I see it.
The 70-200 2.8 Mk2 is much newer than the EOS 5! :)
