I contacted B & H this morning and they will send me a new charger as soon as I send them the old one. This process may take a couple of weeks so I am ordering a second one from them to be delivered by 31 Dec. They were very good about the return, and will cover the shipping cost and ship the new one via 2nd day air as I got the camera shipped that way.

if your referring to my issues, the charger fixed the problem. I'd say that there is a faulty batch of chargers out there.

Man id say your really lucky the retailer swapped them out for you... i dare say stand alone chargers are as rare as the batteries themselves and that the retailer is a $5k (AUD) kit down now by giving you a charger... wicked... would suck bad to be sitting with the camera in your hands and no battery...

i reckon i could shave down a BP 511a to fit..?!?! :) hahaha

maybe mention the retailer - theyve obviously done the right thing by a client in there spending good money.

oh and if a person buys a kit from them and comes on here complaining about a buggered battery - we will know they are not dealer of the year - and that they just passed your problem onto the last kit they had :)

Hey niko, it was Camera house Camera Action on Elizabeth St melbourne, actually the charger that i got was from a kit that a customer had returned with a fault on the body, thats to go back to Canon Service, but the charger worked, so the manager Adam, great guy kindly swapped out the working charger. So yeah no one will be getting a dodgy charger hahaha :)
