It's not worth it. If you are really looking for china knock off, then perhaps Dynatran (external link) offers better value. I use their ATH-A03. Back in the days, they were so affortable.

Why not? If all the OP needs to support is a flash I'm sure that any sort of head would be suitable.

I simply looked at the OP's gear list. A 40D + 580EX + Sigma 70-200f2.8, I don't think that little small ballhead can handle the weight. I could be wrong, of course.

I think he just wants to use the ball head for the flash nothing else.

I just went ahead about bought a Giottos MH-1004 from B&H for $12.95+like $5 shipping and had it in a few days. I bought it specifically for my flash mounted on a Stroboflip flash bracket I picked up on eBay for $45.

Here is what my rig looks like now, just look at the last few shots as they show the setup with everything in place:

I was going to opt for an el cheapo but could not find a decent deal from a seller in the US (personal reasons I want to help employ folks here) and then I found a better head, cheaper from B&H so I bought there...I also added the other accessory adapter shown there to give me more 'flexibility' in positioning the head...though that adapter is not as user friendly as it looks since it has only one adjustment knob that loosens the ball on top and the ratchet type lock at the bottom...so it can try and move in a couple directions at the same time...d'oh!
