What got me into photography in the first place was all this rendering stuff I started about 5 years ago. It really gave me a technical perspective on the whole idea. I think it is also why I am more of a technical photographer then an artistic one.

Anyway here is a couple of samples of my 3D work.

The first is my attempt at creating the most convincing glass render:

Here is an older attempt:

Here's another:

Here's an attempt to take a picture in the same fashion as I do my renders:

Let me know what you think. And also let me know if you got into photography the same way I did.

I didn't get into photography the same way you did, but they are amazing renders.

However, rendering a human face accurately is what's needed for 3D rendering to be called "photorealistic", IMO.
Tricking the human brain in this regard is a tough task - we have a dedicated space in our brains that recognises human faces after all.

I got into photography early on before I ever got into 3D work but what inspired me was working on a few IMAX films where I had the chance to interact with the directors and work closely with them for initial shot work. Being stereoscopy features there was a lot of camera work and interaction on the technical level which forced me to pick up my camera again and start getting back into the creative side of things.

There used to be Canon gear here but it disappeared.

WOW!
Those are really really amazing renders!
If you put the real photo next to the render and asked me I would probably pick wrong, great great work!
