So I am going in for rotator cuff surgery in the AM and my left arm will be immobile for at least 2 weeks. Any suggestions on how to shoot one handed?

Monopod time! Good luck with the surgery.

Hi Doc,

I just had similar surgery on my left shoulder three weeks ago. The surgery was Thursday AM and I shot a hockey tournament on Saturday and Sunday with a 1DMKIII and a 70-200 f/2.8LIS. I'll admit it wasn't easy and I didn't take as many shots as I normally would. My surgery was also quite simple compared to the reconstruction of my right shoulder two years ago.

Good luck,
Dan

PS: I forgot to mention - I did not have to keep my shoulder immobile. My surgeon told me that I could move my shoulder as much and as soon as pain allowed.

Doc - Sure sounds like a valid reason to take a couple weeks off ;)!

Monopod, tripod collar... E-1 handstrap or similar may well help. Otherwise... try to stick to as light body/lens combinations as possible to reduce the shake from shooting one-handed.

I will be off work for about 6 weeks. They are doing some reconstruction and installing some mylar sheaths. I just hope to not take that much time off from shooting.

Yeah maybe I will just need to use the G9 instead of the 40D. At least all is not lost. The surgeon told me he is sending me home with 10 days supply of oxycontin so I may not have to worry about it until that time is past.
