B&H prices plus next day shipping seems pretty fair for a real store...I would do business with them if they were that close.

Me too! I have gone to a few local stores and asked them to price match and they won't, even on small items of if they are over a smallish amount. So I don't shop with them.

I am home watching wall-E and will probably go to bed before 11!

Thank you kindly. We've gone through quite a bit of champagne so far. I think this last bottle will finish us off...

hic

In that case I think you should give a toast and go on a bit about stuff in general

The local camera store is so over-priced that it is laughable....what is even funnier is the number of people that think their prices are good. Their typical prices are 20% over MSRP. There is no way I am paying MSRP....much less a 20% premium on top of it. The owner is totally out of touch with reality.

Yes, here too Dan. thing is we are so close to NYC and they know what folks can get there I don't understand why they don't try harder. I found a new almost local place (local for work) that has decent pricing, I got my flash thingie there and will check them out more closely in the near future.

Good thing you didn't bring cash back - that would have absolutely blown their minds!

I should have...it would have saved me 3/4 of an hour. gah.

I bought my 100-400 from their store in NW Portland last June. They match B&H prices plus add on B&H next day shipping costs. For most purposes I'll order online with UPS ground delivery service and save the extra money. When I bought my 5D from Amazon the shipping was free and it arrived in 2 days.

I was buying two lenses and the shipping charge was the same as the 1 day shutterbug charged me. So rather than have UPS have my lenses for a week, I just bought local. It was a serious PIA though.

Yup. This reminds me of when I was trying to sort out the purchase for our house. After selling my apartment, I wanted to transfer the money to the solicitors for buying the house. I attempted to do this over the phone only to be told that I could only do this in amounts of £10K. I had over £100K to transfer.

That kind of threw me (and made me somewhat nervous and stressed out). In the end, I had to go to a bank, handed over my bank card and told them to transfer the full amount. Thankfully, they did it qithout question.

lol, Dan mentioned a similar thing...we used a cashiers check to pay for our house originally...no questions asked. Go figure

I wish you all the happiest of new years, may you be safe, surrounded with friends and/or loved ones and not find a dead bug at the bottom of your drink :)

According to B&H they are both 3.2 lbs (without the tripod collar)

the 300 F4? Or the 70-200? In any case it SEEMS like a tiny leetle lens

My fellow belowmeonians,

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank for your year's hard work on being complete and utter blabberfingers and taking this thread so far ahead of your rivals (the tupperwarians). This year is officially the blabberiest on record and you should be proud.

And I also want you all to know that I love you all even more than that night in Geneva a few months ago (and that's saying something). Thank you all for your support for our wedding by the way, it's been much appreciated.

May 2009 bring you all increased blabbering and happiness. May all your lenses be shiney and your pictures colourful (except when they're in black and white).

Felicitations.

Pete & Ali.

Woah, cool...

Now I'm kind of jealous that Peterond spends most of his time sitting in his tree-house.

Happy New Year anyway! :p
