I'm soon upgrading my OS to Vista x64 and would like to be able to easily restore all my add-ons. Is this possible? I found a tool for backing up the Favorites and such but not the add-ons for the custom layout.

Thanks

Write down the names, search again, that's the way I do it, easy :)

Or if you have a screen capture program, just open the Add-ons dialog box and take a snapshot of your add-ons and save in to a folder outside the drive on which you will be installing your new operating system. My preference for screen caps is SnagIt Pro v9 but there are several other excellent options available.

I do clean installations of Windows XP on all my computers every 6 months so this is my preferred method of saving information I need regularly. I do the same for things like my QuickLaunch bar, Desktop, etc. so my installations are constant and I can easily tell if I forget to install a program I'll need.

Just copy your Firefox directory across, that should work. At least it did for me. You will find it in %user directory%/Application Data/Mozilla

I don't have my Vista 64 up and running at the mo to tell you where it should go but it's pretty much similar folder set up.

However it's for this reason I don't like Firefox as much of the functionality I need is already in Opera without having to install something like 30 extensions... Some of which are still not ported from V2!

Hey thanks for the additional input. Before I installed Vista x64 I found this app. MozBackup (external link) but wasn't 100% for sure if it saved the Add-On data. Good to find out that it backs up all your FireFox stuff, including the Add-On's and restores it back just like it was.
