What lens should I rent?
Im torn between the Brick (24-70/2.8), 24-105/4IS, and 12-24/4 TOK.
I know that the 12-24 is in a totally different ballpark than the Canon's as it is a UWA and not a normal zoom range lens.
I will be doing a full day shoot with a few photog friends in NYC on the 23 of December as well as a Night+Full day shoot at Okemo Mountain with a friend on the 28-29.
(All of this on top of Christmas, and probably New Years I anticipate renting this lens for)
I dont have anything wider than 50mm in my bag right now because I (silly me) traded my 18-55 for a 75-300 tele, then sold the 75-300.
I do own a 430ez and will be getting a grip as well as a 285hv or an sb-26 for Christmas. I have PW's for the flashes, and the 80-200 usually does me quite well for most everything, granted Im usually far from my subjects with a 1.8m MFD.
I was using sscamatt's(another member on this forum) Tamron 17-50/2.8 and think I could easily satisfy myself with a 24mm wide end.
One Friend Owns
40D, 10-22Canon, 17-50/2.8Tamron, 55-250ISCanon
Another
40D, 11-16/2.8Tok, 30/1.4Sigma, 17-85ISCanon, 75-300Sigma
Another has the nikon gear listed directly below..
On the Okemo trip I will be accompanied by my friend who shoots Nikon and he's got the Tok 12-24, Nikkor 50/1.8, and Nikkor 18-200 VR.
We were planning on setting up one camera at the jump looking up, and one with a photog & tele lens to shoot remotely. The camera at the jump would have a PW to trigger, and poverty wizards to trigger a few flashes from the ground to frontlight the subject (as I assume we'll be shooting into the sun).
Probably way more info than anyone wants.
CLIFF NOTES= What lens to rent to do a ski shoot, day/night trip to NYC, Christmas with?
