It's exposed to the left says lightroom, but how is it in your monitors? :)

exposure looks fine to me. Hair loses detail and is dark. Might be picking up that since it takes up a bit of space. You also lose detail on the right side because of dark shirt and bokeh in the hair = dark

So do you think it's necessary to increase exposure on the hair to get it even across the frame?

depends if you've lost the data or not. If the shadows can't be recovered you'll just end up with noise.

The light is coming from the bottom left. This is mostly just a lighting problem and would have been better with some ambient coming in to light her hair from top left like it is coming in on the right side of her noggin where you can see the detail of light. It just might be confusing the histogram with such a difference in highlights/shadow contrast.

Remember a picture is only the processing of light bouncing off of a subject. That's what makes the picture. . .just make sure light is reaching what you want to expose.

I don't think there is much more you can do. You can see about doing an exposure adjustment brush on her hair, but again, if there is no data to expose then it will just look weird.

I tried to tweak the hair but it did come out a bit weird.

Ahh so much to learn about exposure  Thanks for your thoughts tfizzle!

welcome...a picture is only as good as your available light. Processing can help but you need a running start. Keep learning. . .i'm fairly new to photography and I learn something every single day
