I've been working on the idea of a photo forum for a while now. I love running forums and since photography is the thing that I'm most interested in, I would love to have one about it. The only problem is that I can't distinguish it. Flickr and many other camera oriented websites have taken most of the share, but I want more of a forum where people can discuss photography without the cameras being involved, where it's just photography. Of course there'd be sections for cameras, the PS crowd and the pro SLR, but it should simply be about photos. I just don't know what to do with it.
Should I try starting it and see if anyone joins? Just simply a forum where users can upload their own photos and share them? I would really appreciate input from people here, as trying to do something this big alone is no easy task for me, especially after already doing it once with a Star Trek forum.

You are already on the best photography forum going. Guess I don't get your point. Discussing starting a competing forum isn't really kosher.

I honestly doubt that this is anything close to the best of any forum...but the point is that it's a Canon based forum. I want a PHOTO based forum. Like Flickr if it were a forum.

Today it is so easy to start a forum due to the many free and very easy to install forums.

And there are so many forum that I am sure there must be one that has exactly what you are looking for.

So why start a new one? Yeah you like running forums. But why run a forum just for the sake of running a forum?

I run a forum too. It has nothing to do with photography. It is a specialist forum I started 8 years ago and several others have attempted to create a competitive forum but none kicked off and mine is still the one and best in that particular specialist area. And why am I saying this. Simple. Because to start a forum AND to make it a success people will join and participate in requires a lot of work. You need to establish a lot of contents in the forum to start it of. Nobody really want to join an empty forum.

In any case this forum (POTN) is not the place to discuss starting another photoforum so I am closing this thread.
