Well I've always found it REALLY easy to MF on the 5D, so I really wanted to see how the new focusing screen could possible make it any easier, so much for that :p.....And here I was thinking that the stock focusing screen with the 5D was so much better than other Canon bodies . Little did I know

That's pretty funny actually. ;)

As far as accuracy goes, I'm more accurate than AF for the most part, but sometimes I can't tell when I'm MF-ing on subjects that are far away, so AF is better for that. For close, static subjects, my eye is definitely more accurate than AF, especially when DOF is ridiculously thin. My 85L never seems to miss though, but it's good to be able to see the plane of focus since any slight movement will shift it. My hit rate, focus wise, is abnormally high because I can see my plane of focus so well.
...

Thanks for the input; I'm definitely going to have to try it out.

Perry, as a matter of interest, what's the C.Fn for the focusing screen set to. Apparently if the setting for C.Fn-00 doesn't match the screen fitted it can play silly beggers with exposure.

Does the setting make any difference?

Yeah it meters a little more to the left now :p. But I rarely pay attention to my meter anyway so it doesn't make a huge difference to my shooting.

Perry, Just to be absolutely sure try looking through each screen while holding down the DOF preview button at f/8. The EE-S will be very different at that aperture. If they both get super dim then you can be sure they are both EE-S.

At f/2.8 and faster there is almost no difference in brightness.

Thanks Jeffrey. I just tried that, they both look exactly the same at anything above f/2.8. At f/8, both are equally dim. Very dim.

Just an update. Now that I'm sure I have two of the same screen, looks like I am gonna trade my spare Ee-S with a local guy's Ee-A when I get back to Toronto. That way, I get both screens to play with (I finally get to see how bright the 5D viewfinder is SUPPOSED to be) and he gets a free upgrade. Win-win.
