This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #143".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!

This game will end on Friday, December 19th at 8:00am PST .

Haven't been out taking many pictures lately....here's one from my pile of pics I want to work on, but haven't gotten to yet.... lots of room for improvement here :-). Picture is from Saguaro National Park in Tucson.

Seperated into 3 layers (normal, darkened and lightened)
Overlapped with the dark background and light foreground
Added contrast to these two layers and sharpened foreground
Selective dodging and burning
Color adjustments in foreground, blurred leaves in front
Desaturated background, blurred and added a split tone using color balance
Cut a bit off the top and added a white border

ACR - white balance (just warmed it up a little), fill light, upped saturation of blues & aquas.
3:2 crop/rotate
selected sky - levels, noise reduction (looks like I got part of the mountain :-( )

Decided to go crazy with selective coloring and recoloring... so not going to fill this with every one.
Many, many color adjustment layers (might be diagnosed with a disorder if I revealed how many ) & accompanying masks
Painted the sky with darker color and soft light layers using a few colors (black mostly)
Blurred and swirled the background slightly
Nik Solarization on Darken just on the sky - First time I used that baby!
Found the lightning brushes I downloaded forever ago thanks to suggestions from here
Spent some layers adjusting the lighting of the mountain edges and also the cloud one strike is coming from
Straightened and.. here we are.

Alright, great job everyone!

So...hmmm...tough one

frenchfx: I really liked your BW version... really gave it that old west feel. Wanted sign was nice touch :-)
BarbW: I liked your crop and you really brought out the mountains nicely.
Squip: the desaturation and split toning effect works nicely in this picture I think.
monty: your edit looks a lot like it actually looked the day I took the pic, minus that part of the mountain ;-)a
SOD: awesome. looks like you had a lot of fun with it! :-D

And I guess I only get to pick one....which is harder than one would think, really......ultimately I'm coming down between Squip and Monty.....um, lets give it to Monty!

You're up Monty!
