What is the purpose of the Battery Check icon on the LCD Monitor? Is it normal to always show as empty?

Full ‘white’ battery icon on the main LCD screen means the same as full ‘black’ battery icon on the top panel: Full battery.

Thank you very much. I had looked in a couple of manuals/books without finding that useful piece of information. It never occurred to me that they would change the meaning of the icon ... duh.
