It ain't fixed and Canon knows it ain't fixed. All that has happened is that people have grown tired of complaining.

It's probably not totally fixed, but I'd say it's a lot better now than it was with the originally released camera. Still...sometimes I think about upgrading to the Mark III (just so I can bloody well connect the camera directly to my Vista x64 computer, which I *can't* do because Canon is too lazy and tight to write 64 bit drivers for the Mark IIn), but the AF issues, extra expenditure, etc turn me off. That, and hopefully a new 1 series camera comes out in 2009 that is more what I want (something like a D3).

If not, as a few others have said already, it'll be D3 time and you won't hear me complaining on here ;-)a I'm sure some people who probably can't wait to see my go, but you're stuck with me for a little bit longer ;-)a

Dave

A replacement for the EOS-1D Mark III is due Q3 2009. I'm sure they will get it right. They really can't afford not to.

I have a 55xxxx model which I purchased refurbished. You may have it if you can pry it out of my cold dead hands.

Say no more. What's your address? I don't need directions. I can Google.

That's the gut feeling I've had. I think the satisfied owners just don't push the camera the way it's supposed to be pushed. Whether my beliefs are true or not, I'm certainly not in awe of the 1D III and have no intentions of buying one.

I have a superb one, 56xxxx series. No problems so far. I wish everyone would have the same luck / level of satisfaction as I did with this gorgeous camera.

Yep. I intend to get another body before football season 09. It will be another Mark III or perhaps the new 1 series body. After 20,000+ clicks of low light sports tracking, the III has been great for me. I too wish everyone had the same good fortune.

Word on the street is they've bought something else. If we look at the sales reports from Canon and Nikon, it probably was not another Canon.

The sales statistics I've seen show Canon pulling away from Nikon, while Sony is killing Pentax. Do you have other information?

Btw, my MkIII is excellent in low-light and birding. A fellow photographer with a Nikon D3 has recently started asking me questions about "my Canon"...

Maybe you've newer figures, but I'm not really that interested anyway. The Nikon D3 and the 1DMKIIn [even] can rock back and forth ~ swear to anything, my MKIII is alive with moods ~ works only when it feels like it ~ then it blows everything away ~ but it's not given me consistency and reliability.

Soon as the MKIV is released I will trade it back in ~ currently I have 3 different battery systems for my Canons ~ moving to Nikon won't change this unfortunately.

My newspaper has gone to the D3, they don't ask me, as a freelance, to shoot sport for them anymore, I've a 30% drop in exposure with them, I've lost my critical advntage that I had enjoyed with Canon :)

I agree - my thoughts exactly. Why keep moaning when Canon have no idea or intention of fully fixing the MK3. To all those who have a fully functioning MK3 congratulations. To all those still stuck with a lemon you have my commiserations.

Yup.... Add me to the list. It isn't fixed. I have just gotten tired of getting beat up for saying it.

I keep looking at one and wanting it....but I am tired of returning them to the dealer.

Let's hope things get better in '09.

You do not read much of 1D Mk111 users as they are shooting more than writing. At a recent photo trail event, the repeated burst of the 1D Mk111 drive never fails to attract anybody - even me who uses one.

It used to be for the sequence. These days they're firing off more bursts in the hopes that at least one is in focus.

I probably don't push the camera as much as some "pros" but it's been working great for me. I suppose everybody will have an opinion on the Mark III, given its history, but at the end of the day, actual owners of the Mark III are the best people to ask. The rest is just conjecture on the internet.

I think people have the right to be concerned about whether an expensive professional grade camera body with a poor history can be relied upon.
