I've noticed over a period of time in the Sell section of the forum many EF-S 17-55 F2.8 IS units have come for sale and a few of these have been repaired or were recently repaired for failed IS units or failed focus ability.

I have also noticed in my local buy/sell sites (Craigs List/Kijiji) that several people have been selling units that have also been repaired.

I am sure this is a small percentage of overall units experience problems, however are there known issues with the 17-55 F2.8 IS or is it an ownership problem (rough with lens) I find it odd to have come across this frequently in searching for a unit.

Any feedback on this....

Do not believe all that you read, especially on these forums. Kind of a biased sample. You will not hear from all the people with lenses that have not failed - like me. Relax, not a real problem. Great lens.

Had two, both for about 6 months, neither had dust and one of them is on my bosses 30D perminantly. It's probably the best walkaround zoom on any system.

Only zoom lens I trust with 2.8, I shoot wide open always with no fear.
