I'm no expert on the subject, but it has never been a problem for me. There are some rules about how many batteries you can carry on, so you might want to check up on that.

ISO 800-3200 film has been subject to fogging. There's no risk to digital cameras or memory cards.

We are flying too- Check with the airline, we were told that Tripods could not be carried on. You are allowed one camera bag carry on per TSA. Lens and Body will be okay through the scanner.

bannedPermanent ban

no worries...all good

although..The last time I went through securtiy I had two bags...

2 mark III's
1 Mark III 1ds
200mm F/2 IS
300mm 2.8 IS
400mm 2.8 IS
14mm II 2.8
50mm 1.2
85mm 1.2
24-70mm 2.8
70-200mm 2.8 IS
5 580ex II
..

I was a little nervous about getting slowed down..Sure enough..They pulled me aside, made me take out every single thing from both bags (lens, bodies, cards, flashes, filters, cloths, EVERYTHING)...It was quite annoying...Moral of the story is..when you travel with super telephoto lenses, know that the lead in the lenses prevent the Xray machines from seeing through them...TSA DOES NOT LIKE THAT :)

Just a note about the battery issue.

TSA doesn't care how many batteries you carry. That is not part of their domain. It is, however, a concern for the airline. Batteries, especially Lithium ion batteries, are considered hazardous materials and require special handling.

In a nut shell, and by no means all encompassing, any battery installed in a device is okay, it is the "loose" or "spare" batteries that are a concern. Check with our airline about the limits. It is stated as so much lithium per person.

Also, batteries carried onboard the aircraft are different from batteries in checked luggage. I know many people don't do it, but any battery placed in checked luggage must be declared and specific procedures followed. This is for the safety of everyone on board the aircraft. Again, check with your airline.

As a practical matter, most ticket agents don't know squat about the rules on this issue, and if you declare your batteries in your checked luggage, they will look at you with that "deer in headlights" expression. All you can do is what is right. If they mess it up, I hope it doesn't cause a fire, because as the captain of the aircraft, I'm the one that is going to have to deal with it. And yes, it has happened inflight where batteries have caught fire. Not a good situation over the North Atlantic in the middle of the night when the nearest airport is sometimes as much as 90 minutes away.

I just flew to Maui (And back).

I carried all my photo stuff as a carry-on.

I covered the exposed contacts on my spare batteries with tape. I had no problems whatsoever and I was even "randomly" selected for further security screening on the way back. Still, no problems.

Will it do anything to the camera? No.

Will the camera do anything to you? Possible. 2/5 times at the airport my camera bag has to go through screening twice. Packing half a dozen lenses in your bag will do that...

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
